“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”

What is the Guitarmy?

The Guitarmy is my email newsletter which is sent out around three times a year. It consists mostly of lesson updates and site changes.

I joined the Guitarmy. Where do I get my password?

The Guitarmy has no password. It is just a newsletter mailing list. You must also register for Platinum Member access in order to get a username and password.

I joined the Guitarmy, why am I not receiving the newsletter?

Sometimes the automated system has a mind of its own. If you are not receiving the Guitarmy Newsletter then please re-join the list. If it states that you are already a subscriber then a new edition of the newsletter has not been sent around yet.

Does a Platinum Member get access to the entire site?

Yes. There is only one level of Platinum Membership.

Do I have to use Paypal to join the site?

The automated system functions via Paypal, but you do not need a Paypal account to join. You can also select "pay with a credit card" after choosing your membership option. If you live in Canada, you can also email transfer your payment to the email address below, but your account will be set up manually, so you won't have immediate access to the site.

After I paid, Paypal did not redirect me to the registration page. What do I do?

Please check your email, including your Junk/Spam folders for the confirmation of payment emails. You should receive two, one from Paypal and another from the site. The email from the site has a link to the registration page for this particular situation.

I'm having trouble logging in. What should I do?

If you have completed the registration process and set your password. Please make sure that you have the upper and lower cases of both your username and password correct. You can also try resetting your password again from the log in page. If the issue persists, please contact me, and I will reset your account manually.

How do I reset my password?

There is a "Reset Password" link on the "Log In" page.

Can I change the email address associated with my account?

Yes. You can change your email address from your profile once you are logged in.

Does my subscription auto renew?

No. Every payment is a one time payment.

(Sorry for the inconvenience, but "Automatic Renewal" is no longer available.)

Do I have to cancel my subscription?

If you are a legacy member who selected the "Automatic Renewal" option then "Yes" you will need to cancel your subscription.

Can you cancel my "Automatic Renewal" for me?

No. You must cancel it using the same payment method that it was set up with initially. For example, Paypal or credit card and I do not have access to those accounts.

How do I know when my subscription ends?

You can check your "active" subscription status at the bottom of the "Members Home" page. If your membership has expired this notice will be removed until active again. If you previously opted for an "automatic renewal" membership, it will also be removed until you cancel your subscription. You will receive two automated email reminders as well, both one week and one day prior to your subscription expiring.

When does my renewal payment start?

Your renewal payment automatically begins when your current subscription ends.

What gear do you use?

Please check out the "My Gear" page for more information.

What Strings/Picks do you use?

Please check out the "My Gear" page for more information.

Is there a list of the all the lessons currently available?

Yes. There is a list on the "Platinum Membership Info" page.

Can I request a lesson?

Yes. There is a "Lesson Request" section for the site, but to be honest, it already has 200+ requests on it. Meaning, if your request is appropriate for the library, it will still be quite some time before I will be able to get to it.

Can I pay you an extra fee to have my requested lesson next on the site?

No. I am trying to work out a fair system for commissioned lessons, but at this point this is not available. With that being said though, I do offer private lessons online, and I am happy to try and teach you any material you would like to work on.

Can I purchase a single lesson from you, instead of a membership?

No. Individual lessons are not for sale.

How do you make your guitar sound like theirs?

I believe that tone is mostly generated from your fingers, which can be developed with many hours of practice. With that being said, this is the process I usually use. First I look up the rig of that particular player online – this info is fairly readily available. Then I build a similar rig using a blend of analog pedals, digital effects, and an amp modeler trying to match the tone. I also have a variety of amps that I sometimes use if they match up well. From there, I make small adjustments, like trying different pick up position selections or trying to adjust and match the treble/bass ratio in the tone, all while I A/B it frequently against the original recording. Obviously having a similar guitar will help too.

Can I ask you a question?

Absolutely. I am trying to save us both some time by answering these FAQ's here, but please don't hesitate to contact me if you have a question.

Can I watch the lessons as many times as I want?

Yes. As many times as you want, any time you want.

Do the Platinum lessons show the material slowly?

Yes. They are detailed, step by step instructions. There are sample lessons available on the "Platinum Membership Info" page.

Can I scroll to any part of the video lesson?

Yes. There are sample lessons on the "Platinum Membership Info" page if you would like to see what the video players look like.

Can I get a refund?

Due to the digital nature of the site, your initial payment of $12.99 is "non-refundable".

I paid twice, by mistake. Can you refund a payment?

Absolutely. Just let me know the situation and I will make any necessary adjustments to your account.

The videos wont play. What should I do?

Usually this can be fixed by simply restarting your device – Please also select the “Auto” option using the settings icon. If the issue persists, I suggest you try clearing your browser cache or even try using a different browser altogether (Chrome, IE or Firefox). Please also check to see if you have any “Parental Control Filters” or if you need a “Firewall Permission Created” as these may prevent the videos from playing as well. If you are still having issues, it may be related to your specific device. If possible, please try testing the players on a different device to see if the same issue persists. The video players are tested regularly on both Windows and Apple devices (including iPad’s and Android phones etc…).

Where can I buy your music?

Thank you for asking :). I am in the process of writing a new album, but you can listen to and buy my last recording HERE.

Where are you located?

I am Canadian, and live in Canada.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes, please check out the Private Lessons page for more information.

Do your lessons have backing tracks?

There are several lessons in the library on how to play over particular backing tracks, for example a "Slow Blues" or a "Latin Groove". However, if you are referring to backing tracks for specific songs then no, those are currently not available.

Can I download the video lessons?

No. The video lessons are not available for download, so you will need an internet connection to view them.

Can I download the tabs?

Yes. The tabs are PDF files that can be downloaded and printed at your convenience.
